Buccaneer
The Buccaneer complication reads like this:
Defeat enemy ( 1, 1, 1).
Do you have to be playing as a Pirate that round? Or do you have to not be playing as a Pirate that round? I don't know if Combat outside of Piracy is really addressed in the rulebook.

Welcome to the forums!
You do not have to be a pirate. In fact, you can't be a pirate, because you have to be pursuing the contract.
Resolving combat against the enemy uses the same combat rules as piracy. The revised rulebook covers this on page 29.

You may have the older rulebook which did not have this section. Rulebooks, errata and other materials are available on our downloads page. Some may require the captain to defeat an enemy ship ( ). To resolve the , use the Piracy rules on page 18, with the acting captain entitled to select whether they will assume the role of attacker or defender. The player must inflict sufficient damage to destroy the enemy's to resolve the , however enemy ships do not repaid , so it is possible to accumulate damage over several rounds. If any enemy attribute value is omitted, that value defaults to 0. Enemy do not target . Any damage they inflict are resolved as expenses..

Re: Buccaneer
So...
If I chose to attack the Buccaneer, I'd have to have a of 2 (1 to penetrate and a second to destroy his ).
To defend against the Buccaneer, I need to have a minimum of 1
Did I get that right?
Playing the Scout, I punted and played "Calling in a Marker" to get rid of the Buccaneer.

Re: Buccaneer
You are correct. Though failing to defend against the enemy just means you have to pay .

Thanks! I hopefully would have remembered I could pay for the damage.Horizon Jeff wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 12:28 amYou are correct. Though failing to defend against the enemy just means you have to pay .
One thing I have noticed is that the game is considerably easier when one remembers that one can draw from the top of the deck to pay for things. Forgot that my first few games....

Re: Buccaneer
Wow, yeah, that would be harsh! Though paying from the top has its own dangers too, not least of which is that at first, you seem rich so you buy everything. Only later do you wish you'd shown some restraint...nukesnipe wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 4:33 pmOne thing I have noticed is that the game is considerably easier when one remembers that one can draw from the top of the deck to pay for things.
