I really wanted to get into T5, mostly because the rule book was huge. (I like big books.) Had I managed to work out that system so that it made sense to me, I would have used those rules in the TNE setting, only because I've put a lot of work into that setting.

I'll be honest, I haven't really looked at T5 much yet.

MegaTraveller has to be my pick, because it was the current system when I first played Traveller. I designed hundreds of vehicles and starships with that system back in highschool. I never got to play or run it for very long (D&D, or Star Frontiers, or Battletech, or the old FASA Star Trek were more popular with my friends) but I did run some memorable adventures.
That said, I also love Classic, GURPS, and both versions of Mongoose Traveller. I've run adventures in all three.
I don't have as much love for New Era or T4, and I've never tried T20 or T5, though I have books for all of them too.

I have to say, when I was a kid and I looked at those MegaTraveller books and saw stuff like PassObjScan = whatever I was like "hard pass."

Now, I feel it's a pretty decent system.

I started with Mongoose Traveller 1.0 then 2.0 came out and we switched. So I have not really played another system.

I really like the Mongoose lines. I think in terms of production value and accessibility, they are top notch.

I learned Traveller from the Little Black Books in the fall of 1977. I still have l of my original materials, from GDW and others of the time. This was 2 years after I started playing Dungeons and Dragons, still have all that original set of materials, too.

After a few years I drew up My Traveller Universe, a region of space in the trailing arm about 1200 parsecs from the edge of Solomanni space. The main polity is an empire called the Farmanni Rekké. The peopling is similar to known Human Space in the official Traveller universe. My Ancients were an offshoot of the originals.

I kludged in bits and pieces of Twilight 2000, Arduin Grimoire and Chivalry & Sorcery back when I was a paid game master at a hobby shop. Kludged in Twilight 2000 and T4 when they came along.

I have materials from all versions, was a Kickstart supporter when T5 came along.

But, at base, I am a Classic Traveller.

It's hard to go wrong with its simplicity and functionality. I think for myself I prefer a bit more modern production values, which is why I go to Mongoose's version, but definitely the LBBs are fantastic.
