The presentation of the icons definitely isn't ideal for everyone, and can be a challenge for the new player experience. When I demo Traveller, I explain the icons as a picture matching game. I, for one, don't see this is an issue at all. Yes, it will take a bit of time to learn the iconography, just like learning what road signs mean when you learn how to drive. Roger that! I think it was a game of solo #2 "The Cost of Doing Business" I won with about 4 cards in my hand and no cards in the Captains Deck. Whoosh!

The main limitation is that once the Captain's Deck is gone then you're bankrupt and out of the game. Not exactly. Once you can't pay for something you are bankrupt and out of the game. You could run your captains deck to zero and still have cards in your hand to pay for things and keep going until...

Yes I think you can. I looked at the entry for this card in the Traveller Card Data Base and it had this: Errata & Clarifications So in the Adventure Phase, Stage 1, you get to draw one complication and look at it without revealing it to your opponents, and then play it on one of the the contracts. ...
